题目：Fast-Tracking Patents and Entrepreneurship: Evidence from China’s Intellectual Property Protection Centers

This paper examines whether faster legal recognition of invention stimulates entrepreneurial entry. Exploiting the staggered establishment of China’s Intellectual Property Protection Centers, which accelerate patent examination in targeted technologies, we find that faster patent grants increase new firm entry by 6.93% in treated city-industry pairs. Mechanism analyses suggest that this effect operates through stronger local knowledge spillovers and easier access to finance, including venture capital and patent-pledge lending. The effects are stronger where commercialization is more time-sensitive and where appropriability, financial intermediation, and knowledge circulation are stronger. Furthermore, expedited patent examination further promotes local innovation outputs and industrial agglomeration subsequent to the establishment of intellectual property protection centers. Overall, the findings identify protection speed as an important institutional condition for entrepreneurship.

王亚男 教授
王亚男，中南财经政法大学-金融学院教授，数字技术与现代金融学科创新引智基地研究员，入选湖北省高层次人才项目，现任Economic Analysis & Policy副主编。主要研究领域为公司金融、企业创新与行为金融。主持国家自然科学基金项目两项，研究成果发表于《经济研究》《金融研究》《数量经济技术经济研究》《Journal of Corporate Finance》《Journal of Banking & Finance》《Journal of Business Ethics》《Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization》等国内外知名期刊。
